Je suis Virginia Hackson, maire de la ville de East Gwillimbury. Je suis actuellement dans mon troisième mandat en tant que maire d’East Gwillimbury. Je suis le sixième maire d’East Gwillimbury depuis 1970, et la deuxième femme à occuper ce poste.
Avant de choisir une carrière en politique municipale, j’ai passé 30 ans dans la gestion municipale. En 2001, j’ai été élue conseillère municipale et j’ai rempli trois mandats. J’ai ensuite poursuivi avec succès le poste de maire en 2010.

Oui, c’est le cas. Nous sommes fiers d’avoir l’École élémentaire catholique Jean-Béliveau dans notre communauté. Cela donne la possibilité aux membres de notre communauté d’apprendre ou de poursuivre leur éducation en français.
6. En plus d’une école, qu’est-ce qui pourrait contribuer au développement de la communauté francophone ?
Au fur et à mesure que la population augmente, il serait formidable d’avoir une organisation ou un club dans notre communauté pour aider à soutenir la langue.

8. Votre Ville fait-elle quelque chose pour soutenir la communauté francophone ou pour promouvoir l’apprentissage du français ?
Nous ne faisons rien de spécifique. Nous invitons notre école francophone à participer aux événements organisés par la ville, comme le service du jour du Souvenir. Nous fournissons également des services/publications en français à notre communauté si elle en fait la demande.

1. How would you introduce yourself?
I am Virginia Hackson, Mayor of the Town of East Gwillimbury. I am currently in my third term as Mayor of East Gwillimbury. I am the sixth Mayor of East Gwillimbury since 1970, and the second woman to hold this position. Prior to choosing a career in municipal politics, I spent 30 years in municipal management. In 2001 I was elected as Town Councillor and proceeded to serve three terms. I then successfully pursued the position of Mayor in 2010.
2. Your city of birth, if you wish to share this information
Born in Toronto and raised in Scarborough
3. If I say French-speaking, what is the first thing that comes to your mind?
I wish I was fluent in french
4. Did you have the chance to learn French, or do you speak it?
Took French in both elementary and secondary school
5. Is there a French-speaking school in your community, is this an advantage?
There is. We are proud to have École élémentaire catholique Jean-Béliveau in our community. This provides the opportunity for those in our community to learn or continue their education in French.
6. In addition to a school, what else could contribute to the development of the French-speaking community?
As the population grows it would be great to have an organization or club in our community to help support the language.
7. Is speaking French an advantage for you?
I am not fluent in French
8. Does your Town do anything to support the French-speaking community or to promote learning French?
We do not do anything specific.
We do invite our French speaking school to participate in Town hosted events, such as our Remembrance Day Service.
We also provide services/publications to our community in French if requested.
